This is a great cause! I've donated, and ask all of you to as well! In the words of Stacy, the lovely and talented woman who is making this film: So as you all know, my lovely cinematographer Alice Brooks and I are making a film in Alaska this winter -- provided we can raise the money! As such, we're trying to fund as much of the film as possible via internet donations. I've set up a website, http://www.stacypershall.com, where you can read all about it and make a donation. We're asking for everyone to give one dollar to the cause. There's a paypal button on the website (please consider a few cents extra as paypal takes out a processing fee), or you can send a buck in the mail to my literary agent (address is on the site). $1 may not seem like much, but if we can spread this across the internet and get 50,000 people to give a buck, we can make a movie!! I believe this is possible, if I can get all my friends to begin spreading the word. Oh, and we have nonprofit status, so all donations are tax-deductible! The film is a cinema verite documentary in the style of Allan King's "Warrendale," about the lives of adolescent girls in residential psychiatric facilities. We will be shooting at Providence Hospital in Anchorage. A link to the facility's website is on my own if you'd like to check it out. We'll be teaching the girls to shoot Super 8 film so that their self-portraits will become part of the larger documentary. Both we and Providence feel this can be an important step in healing. Please don't think that because you can ONLY give a buck you should just skip it. We really do mean it when we say ONE DOLLAR!! And donations of $100 or more get a hand-knitted hat made by me from my own hand-dyed yarn! So please please, at the very least just repost this -- as a bulletin, on your myspace, your blog, your email signature, etc. This is possible if all of you help! THANK YOU!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!! And will be posting more tonight, but until then, if you know anyone into quilting, sewing, woodworking, or gardening, send 'em on over!:) http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZlittlewaif0529It was a lot of work to post those, but like I said, I've got more that will be going up! And any profits made from these auctions will be going toward Mikasi and my vacation (well, our long weekend to OH to visit an abandoned prison overnight!), so please tell people if you know someone that might like these! Tonight will be Better Homes and Garden's Wood magazine (nearly 2 decades, but I haven't finished sorting), Coastal Living magazine, and candy/soap molds! God I've missed doing this:) Current Mood: hopeful

We have a truce now, and he'll come out and let me pet him... but he's got this strange thing with feet. I can't figure that one out... I walk in the room and he attacks my feet (no teeth, just batting, but the cat has a strong punch!:)), but when I sit down, he'll come out and let me pet him. Hrm. He's still growling and hissing a lot, but him getting up and wandering, and eating and drinking makes me happy. Of course, I had to laugh when I first got him to eat... some wet cat food goop on my finger, and he was licking it off while growling softly... "nomnomnomnomnom..." It was hilarious:) I'm gonna have to get a picture of him, but he's a cute little black cat (of course, generally the hardest to find a home for) with a gorgeous set of gold eyes. I think with some love and patience, he'll come out of his shell... I also think that he needs to be an only cat... I haven't put him around mine yet, but he's still a little ornery... I'm looking at finding a shelter to take him, but that's tough for me. I'd much rather find him a home... Current Mood: hopeful

We've got Mikasi's mom's cat living with us at the moment. Brought him to our house yesterday and he's REALLY pissed off and aggressive at the moment (I've got the bandage on my arm to prove it). When he's not freaked out (I've met him at Mikasi's mom's place), he's a good cat, seems pretty loving. Since Mikasi's mom had the surgery and was gone for a while, with all the changes with her lately, and with the oxygen, it's been made clear that she can't keep the cat anymore. Apparently he bit her at 4 in the morning the other day for no real reason... Mikasi's sister suggested just putting him outside and letting him "fend for himself" but I wouldn't have it. He's front-paw declawed, and wouldn't last long outside. Is there anyone local to me (northeast IL, southeast WI) that would want to adopt a small (but STRONG) black kitty with gorgeous golden eyes? He needs some work, but I think that he could be an extremely loving and good cat. I'm not even mad at him... last night we were fighting because I was trying to get him back into his carrier. But he's so freaked out that right now he doesn't want anyone near him. Can anyone help? Kindred Kitties is overwhelmed after the winter and has no room, and it's looking like some of the other shelters are going to charge me up to $200 to relinquish him if I don't just leave him (which I do NOT want to do) on their doorstep. Anyone know anyone that wants a kitty that might need a little work and a LOT of love? I wish we could keep him, but we've already got 2 cats, a dog, a mouse, and a hermit crab. And my cat is very jealous and wouldn't take well to another cat in the house (Timmy is now closed in the computer room by himself)... Current Mood: hopeful

I loved the movie Thin, and I think this is an amazing idea! From Stacy Pershall: The website for my documentary film, Better the Devil You Know, is now up at http://www. stacypershall. com! Please go take a look, donate a buck, and repost this EVERYWHERE!!! My cinematographer friend Annie and I are trying to raise $15k (at least) of the necessary 50k by the beginning of April so we can go shoot in California. We have been granted access to shoot in a psychiatric treatment facility in CA, and we are negotiating with five others across the country. There have been only three precedents to this kind of access in the history of cinema: Allan King's WARRENDALE and Frederick Wiseman's TITICUT FOLLIES (both made in 1967) and Lauren Greenfield's THIN (made in 2006.) We don't want it to be another 40 years before another film like this gets made -- we want to put our response into cinema now! So please, please consider giving a dollar, reposting this all over the damn place, and maybe putting the URL in the signature line of your email. This film has the potential to change lives, and as you know, eating disorder advocacy is my mission in life. Thank you so much for helping to support this dream, helping to teach troubled teenage girls to shoot film (and thus find a passion to replace anorexia), and helping to change the world, a buck at a time.
