Please give $1 and repost!! - The Reluctant Optimist
Please give $1 and repost!!
This is a great cause! I've donated, and ask all of you to as well!

In the words of Stacy, the lovely and talented woman who is making this film:

So as you all know, my lovely cinematographer Alice Brooks and I are making a film in Alaska this winter -- provided we can raise the money! As such, we're trying to fund as much of the film as possible via internet donations.
I've set up a website, http://www.stacypershall.com, where you can read all about it and make a donation. We're asking for everyone to give one dollar to the cause. There's a paypal button on the website (please consider a few cents extra as paypal takes out a processing fee), or you can send a buck in the mail to my literary agent (address is on the site).

$1 may not seem like much, but if we can spread this across the internet and get 50,000 people to give a buck, we can make a movie!! I believe this is possible, if I can get all my friends to begin spreading the word.

Oh, and we have nonprofit status, so all donations are tax-deductible!

The film is a cinema verite documentary in the style of Allan King's "Warrendale," about the lives of adolescent girls in residential psychiatric facilities. We will be shooting at Providence Hospital in Anchorage. A link to the facility's website is on my own if you'd like to check it out. We'll be teaching the girls to shoot Super 8 film so that their self-portraits will become part of the larger documentary. Both we and Providence feel this can be an important step in healing.

Please don't think that because you can ONLY give a buck you should just skip it.

We really do mean it when we say ONE DOLLAR!! And donations of $100 or more get a hand-knitted hat made by me from my own hand-dyed yarn!

So please please, at the very least just repost this -- as a bulletin, on your myspace, your blog, your email signature, etc.

This is possible if all of you help!
